Chequer Mead’s team of friendly volunteers are integral to our customer’s experience of the theatre.

Volunteer Stewards, provide a warm welcome, check tickets and show customers to their seats. Stewards also sell ice creams, occasionally merchandise, and assist with enquiries whilst ensuring visitors’ safety throughout the show.

Box Office volunteers, welcome customers to the theatre, answer the phone, use our computerised system to book tickets for shows and help our customers with general enquiries.

No experience is necessary as full support and training is provided.

As well as enjoying performances and looking after our customers, volunteers are invited to a number of annual social engagements; including meals out at local restaurants, a summer BBQ and post-Christmas fish and chip supper. We host monthly coffee mornings to update our volunteers with the latest news of the theatre, which offers a great opportunity to socialise. Our volunteers enjoy being part of our community, making volunteering at Chequer Mead a great way to support the arts in East Grinstead whilst meeting new people and making friends.
