We hope that everyone can enjoy the experience of live theatre and therefore take the issues of accessibility very seriously.

Chequer Mead offers level access to the front and throughout the building and disabled facilities. Regretfully our first-floor theatre circle seats are only accessible via stairs.

Wheelchair Users

We have specific areas for optimum wheelchair access in the auditorium, so we ask that wheelchair users book in advance to enable us to allocate these seats as well as help you during your visit. The Box Office and Front of House staff are trained in accessibility and are on hand to answer any questions.

At present, wheelchair seats can only be booked with our Box Office, either over the phone or in person.

Essential Companion Scheme

We are currently working towards the introduction of an essential companion scheme. This scheme will be designed to ensure all visitors to the theatre get the assistance they require and will offer complimentary tickets to essential carers and companions.

Whilst this scheme is still being developed, we require supporting documentation for a free carers ticket. Documentation includes:

  • Access Card (Nimbus)
  • Ophthalmologist report (Visual Impairment)
  • Dual Sensory Impairment
  • Audiology report
  • Disabled Railcard
  • CEA Card
  • Continuing Healthcare Package
  • Direct Payments DLA Mobility (High) or Care (High/Mid)
  • GP Letter
  • PIP Daily Living Component (Mobility)
  • Certificate of Visual Impairment
  • An equivalent international document or ID card.
  • War Disablement Pension
  • Compass Card
  • Social Services Care Package
  • AFIP (Armed Forces independence payment)

Details will be held on Chequer Mead Theatre’s database so we can facilitate future bookings. Paper and electronic documentation will be destroyed and personal information treated as confidential.
